Job Description
In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program.

The Opportunity
BAE Systems is seeking an ON-SITE Systems Administrator Intern for Summer 2026. Join our IT Operations Team within our Network Infrastructure Support Program Area and become a member of a highly productive team, where each employee has the opportunity to grow their skills and work on rewarding system and network operations projects. The selected candidate will perform the following functions working closely with interdisciplinary teams in support of the US Navy's Strategic Systems Programs)a program that keeps our nation safe with a credible sea-based nuclear deterrent:
  • Installing, configuring, hardening, patching, tuning, and upgrading Windows servers
  • Hardening Windows servers in accordance with system security policies and DISAs Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • Troubleshooting issues to restore operations
  • Assisting with COTs installations, tuning, and troubleshooting
  • Performing vulnerability scans and remediating findings
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation to include technical instructions and technical designs
About the Program
Our organization has supported SSP continually since the programs inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and we have been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and is the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nations nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of the COLUMBIA class, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The US Navy projects that this system will be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. This is a truly unique program and BAE Systems employees on this program understand they are part of an important legacy.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Enrolled student at an accredited 4-year college / university having completed a minimum of two years (Sophomore) towards an Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other related degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Word, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Self-motivation and ability to work independently
  • Ability to interact with and effectively present information to peers, management, and customers
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with partners and government officials

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Hands-on experience managing Windows Server to include deployments, upgrades, patches, and hardening
  • Experience hardening systems in accordance with DISAs Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
  • The ability to understand and remediate vulnerabilities identified by CTOs, IVAMs, DISA STIGS, ACAS, and evaluate STIGs
  • Experience with PowerShell to automate tasks and manage systems
  • Experience with Windows Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Web, File and Print services
  • Basic knowledge of Virtualization (VMWARE Preferred)
  • Experience with Linux

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $48620 - $67640

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Temporary employees generally are not eligible for BAE Systems benefits, but can elect to participate in the 401(k) savings plan. Temporary employees working 20+ hours per week are eligible for medical benefits, the employee assistance program, and business travel accident insurance.
