Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Field Biologist to oversee field operations, environmental assessments, and compliance efforts related to sensitive biological resources. This role plays a key part in supporting permitting and environmental compliance through the evaluation of avian nesting activity, riparian habitats, and associated biological risks. The successful candidate will lead field crews, coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure high-quality data collection and regulatory adherence using GIS and digital tools. Business conduct must occur in accordance with OMS policies and procedures and be aligned with the goals of OMS.
Essential Functions:
• Direct and oversee environmental field assessments focused on avian nesting activity and riparian habitat conditions in support of client projects.
• Use GIS systems and digital tools to identify, map, and assess biological risks to support permitting processes and regulatory documentation.
• Lead and manage field teams in conducting site evaluations and environmental monitoring in compliance with client standards and best practices.
• Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of environmental data collected during both field and desktop assessments.
• Monitor and enforce adherence to PG&E environmental requirements and applicable regulatory policies and guidelines (e.g., MBTA, ESA, Clean Water Act).
• Other duties as assigned by OMS or the client.
Qualifications:
o Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or related field (Master’s preferred)
o 4+ years of experience conducting biological assessments, including avian nesting and riparian habitat surveys
o Field team leadership experience, preferably in utility or regulated environments
o Proficiency in GIS platforms, digital data tools, and Microsoft Office Suite
o Strong understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory compliance requirements
o Excellent communication, coordination, and documentation skills
o Conduct a background check, drug screening, and physical exam.
o Approval by Client Representative.
Working Conditions: Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor conditions; exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on/walk on slippery or uneven and potentially mountainous terrain. Noise level is usually moderate.
