The Head Cross Country Coach is responsible for the overall leadership, development, and success of the cross-country program. This includes planning and conducting practices, coaching meets, mentoring cadet-athletes, and promoting a culture of discipline, sportsmanship, and academic success. The coach must also ensure adherence to school, conference, and state athletic regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, and conduct all practices and training sessions.
Instruct cadet-athletes in proper techniques, strategies, conditioning, and safety procedures.
Promote academic achievement and character development in all athletes.
Maintain equipment, uniforms, and supplies within budget guidelines.
Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
Monitor and enforce eligibility, attendance, and conduct standards.
Communicate regularly with parents, faculty, administration, and athletic staff.
Ensure compliance with all academy policies and state athletic association rules.
Oversee assistant coaches and provide leadership and direction for staff development.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
Prior coaching experience in cross country or track (head or assistant level).
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Knowledge of cross-country training methods and safety practices.
CPR/First Aid and coaching certification (as required by the state or school).
Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor for student-athletes.
