Position Summary

  • The Director of Special Projects will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and execution for high-priority initiatives, programs, and activities aligned with the mission and vision of NOLA Public Schools. This role will lead the development, coordination, and successful implementation of districtwide special projects and ensure alignment with organizational goals and priorities. The Director will also be responsible for evaluating the impact of initiatives, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and representing the district in key stakeholder engagements
  • Salary Range: $65,400- $99,735

Essential Duties And Responsibilities 

  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for the planning, development, and execution of special projects and initiatives assigned by the Deputy Superintendent;
  • Lead cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes, utilizing advanced project management methodologies and best practices;
  • Establish project goals, success metrics, and implementation timelines; ensure adherence to deadlines, budgets, and quality standards;
  • Anticipate challenges, assess risks, and proactively develop solutions to ensure project continuity and success;
  • Serve as the primary liaison between internal departments, community partners, government agencies, and other external stakeholders to coordinate and execute projects;
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, briefing materials, and presentations for the Deputy Superintendent
  • Convene and facilitate high-level meetings to drive decision-making, secure buy-in, and ensure accountability among stakeholders;
  • Conduct and oversee research, policy analysis, and data evaluation to inform strategy and guide decision-making related to special initiatives;
  • Monitor project performance and impact, adjusting course as needed to ensure desired outcomes are achieved;
  • Represent the district at community events, public forums, and partnership meetings, serving as a strategic ambassador of NOLA-PS;
  • Conducts research and data analysis in support of core initiatives and special projects and communicates findings; and
  • Performs other duties as required

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Business Administration, or similar area of study, required
  • Minimum of five years in project management, strategic planning, or program development, preferably in a public sector, education, or nonprofit setting
  • Proven track record of successfully leading complex projects from concept to execution in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Knowledge, Skills Or Abilities Required

  • Ability to align special projects with organizational priorities and drive execution from planning through evaluation
  • Proficient in applying project management tools, frameworks, and software to ensure effective planning, tracking, and delivery of results
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and influence internal and external stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize data to inform decision-making and solve complex problems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling presentations, reports, and stakeholder communications
  • Ability to thrive in a fluid, mission-driven environment and respond to changing priorities with agility and innovation
  • Sensitivity to the needs of diverse communities and a commitment to equity and inclusion in public education
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, project management platforms and data analysis tools

Salaries are determined by educational background and/or relevant years of experience.

Performance Evaluation

The employee will be evaluated based on the above position using either two methods: via COMPASS or a NOLA-PS evaluating instrument. If the employee holds an Educational Leadership certification, he/she will be evaluated via COMPASS to ensure renewal of certification.
